Golden Triangle Mission School

Students having fun at the GTM school in Myanmar

The Golden Triangle is a vast, mountainous region that spans parts of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar, where the borders of these three countries converge at the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong Rivers. Known for its historical association with the opium trade, this region has long provided ideal conditions for opium cultivation, dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries.

Since the 1950s, the Golden Triangle has remained one of the world's largest opium-producing areas.

The extreme poverty in this region has led to heartbreaking circumstances, with some parents forced to sell their children into slavery just to meet basic needs. In response to this dire situation, God placed a vision in the heart of our Burmese pastor to provide education for the children of the Golden Triangle. Through the support of our partner ministry in Australia, funds were raised to build an elementary school dedicated to transforming the lives of these children.

Many of the students lived in remote mountain villages, requiring them to walk a total of six hours each day to attend school. Along this dangerous journey, girls were at risk of being abducted for sex trafficking, while boys were often recruited as child soldiers.

In response to the urgent need, Ethnos Ministries Canada took action to build a dormitory where children could stay during the week, allowing them to return home to their families on weekends. Thanks to generous donations from Kelowna, BC, a dormitory was constructed, providing safe accommodation for up to 60 children, offering them a chance at a brighter future.
